UNBOXED started shortly after the COVID pandemic hit KC in March 2020 as an unnamed social media project. Wes was working on a KC CARE Health Center grant for Health Education Risk Reduction and had an idea for a 6-week social media project.

Recognizing the power of collaboration, Wes sought the assistance of a friend and leader in the Kansas City metro LGBTQ+ community. He invited Ace to co-host a live-streamed show, a platform to discuss sex and other taboo topics with various local guests. Ace's response, 'Sounds wild; I’m in,' echoed their shared vision. Indeed, their partnership was instrumental in the project's transformation from a 6-week endeavor to a nonprofit 501C-3 and back again to a shared project focused on sharing your story.

UNBOXED discontinued its status as non-profit in the spring of 2025 and returned to its core founding of sharing stories.
